Hand-Thrown Stoneware, Made in Austin

Discover Settle Ceramics, an Austin-based studio creating hand-thrown stoneware for the kitchen, table, and home.

Founded by artist Samantha Heligman, Settle focuses on functional pieces designed to be used and loved for years, including mugs, dinnerware, serving pieces, cookware, oil bottles, salt jars, and one-of-a-kind vessels. Many pieces are made from Texas stoneware, hand-glazed, and individually made to order.

It’s everyday pottery made to become a modern heirloom.

Settle Ceramics FAQs: Materials, Food Safety, Care & Handmade Pottery

What are Settle Ceramics pieces made from?

Settle primarily works in stoneware, and many current pieces are specifically described as being made from Texas stoneware. Each piece is wheel-thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired as part of the studio process.

Are Settle Ceramics glazes food safe?

Yes. Settle states that all of its glazes are food safe. Because the pieces are handmade, glaze color, saturation, surface, and pattern can vary from one piece to another.

Are Settle Ceramics pieces dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe?

Yes. Settle states that all items are dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe, although hand washing is recommended for larger pieces to help extend their life. Individual product pages also commonly identify mugs, bowls, and plates as dishwasher- and microwave-safe.

Where are Settle Ceramics products made?

Settle is based in Austin, Texas, and its pieces are hand-thrown by artist Samantha Heligman in her studio practice. The brand’s showroom is located at Springdale General in Austin, and current product photography explicitly describes pieces as hand-thrown in Austin.

Why does my piece look slightly different from the photo?

That variation is intentional. Settle describes its handmade pieces as “sisters, not twins.” Differences in shape, size, texture, and glaze are part of the handmade process and are not considered flaws.

Are Settle Ceramics pieces made to order?

Many are. Settle states that each item is individually made to order unless otherwise specified, and products such as its Fat Rim Dinner Plate and Wander mugs are explicitly listed as made to order.
