In 1953, the Hormel Company tapped into America’s obsession with collectibles by attaching over five million wool felt pennants—each representing one of 95 universities—to their soup cans with rubber bands.

Marketed in comic books and grocery stores, these 4 x 9-inch felt pennants became beloved tokens of school pride across the nation. Few remain today in collectible condition.
