What Is a Hormel Pennant?

In 1953, the Hormel Company joined America’s collectibles craze by attaching over five million wool felt pennants, representing 95 universities, to their soup cans using rubber bands.

Marketed in comic books and grocery stores, these 4 x 9-inch pennants became a beloved part of 1950s pop culture. Today, very few survive—especially in such pristine condition.
