    The Story behind Rawmio

    Rawmio grew from co-founder Alex Malinsky’s early interest in food and wellness. After dealing with asthma as a teenager, Alex began paying closer attention to the relationship between what he ate and how he felt, eventually becoming a raw-food chef and entrepreneur. In 2003, when raw chocolate was still nearly impossible to find, he set out to create it himself.

    What is Rawmio chocolate made from?

    Rawmio’s core raw chocolate starts with a simple base of single-origin cacao, cacao butter, and coconut sugar. Individual products may also include nuts, seeds, coconut milk, vanilla, fruit, mushrooms, or other superfood ingredients. Many ingredients are certified organic.

    Is Rawmio free from dairy, gluten, soy, and GMOs?

    Rawmio states that its manufacturing facility is strictly free of gluten, dairy, corn, soy, and GMOs. The main allergen concern is tree nuts, which are widely processed in the facility.

    Where does Rawmio source its cacao?

    Rawmio says it sources single-origin, direct-imported organic cacao from small-farm cooperatives in Peru, and its FAQ states that the cacao is USDA Organic and Rainforest Alliance certified. The company also says it works directly with fairly traded cacao suppliers serving native communities in Peru.

    Where are Rawmio products made?

    Rawmio states that its products are 100% made in the USA, right outside Chicago. The company operates its own manufacturing facility in Northbrook, Illinois, rather than relying on a co-packer.

    Do Rawmio spreads need to be refrigerated?

    No. Rawmio says its chocolate spreads and butters are shelf-stable even after opening and have a 12-month shelf life from the date of manufacture. Each jar carries a best-before date.

    Rawmio uses a low-temperature stone-grinding process that takes about 24 hours, with temperatures kept below 100°F. The company starts with whole cacao nibs rather than cocoa powder and avoids refined sugar, dairy, and artificial additives in its core chocolate products.

    I’ve been on the hunt for a good cacao powder for months and finally found it. I requested a COA from this company to make sure it wasn’t rich in heavy metals, and sure enough, it’s as clean as cacao can be, and their customer service is great, too. I use this in every chocolate recipe I desire. It pairs great with a little vanilla and maple syrup.

Cacao Powder is incredibly high in antioxidants, and this stuff is raw / minimally processed which means the nutrients are preserved.
