What Makes Johnny Slicks Special
to my american goods®
Johnny Slicks was founded by John Raushi, a Marine Corps veteran, who started creating his own products after struggling to find grooming solutions that actually worked without harsh ingredients.
What began as a personal experiment quickly turned into a business built from the ground up—mixing formulas by hand, selling directly to customers, and refining products based on real feedback.
Later, alongside fellow veteran Nick Koumalatsos, the brand evolved into something bigger: a company built not just on grooming, but on a mission to challenge an industry filled with shortcuts and low-quality ingredients.
Johnny Slicks stands out because it’s not driven by trends or mass production—it’s built on discipline, craftsmanship, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

I purchased this beard wash for my husband, who prefers natural and organic grooming products. He sometimes experiences dryness in his beard, so I wanted him to try this product to see if it provided enough moisture. The formula combines tea tree, peppermint, and coconut oil and is designed to support both beard and skin health. It's easy to use; following the instructions or using around 3 ml per wash, an 8 oz (237 ml) bottle should last approximately 79 days.As a handmade product with organic ingredients, the pricing reflects its functional value. The scent is clean and noticeable after use. All scents from this brand tend to be distinctive. I cannot yet speak to long-term performance, but so far, the product delivers what it promises.
Johnny Slicks Organic Hand-Whipped Beard Wash earns a 4.5/5 for its 4 oz multi-use formula that effectively cleanses and nourishes both beard and skin. Combining tea tree oil (anti-microbial, reduces inflammation), peppermint (stimulates blood flow, cooling sensation), and coconut oil (hydrates without clogging pores), this rugged-scented wash balances natural oil production while targeting beardruff. Its anti-inflammatory properties and refreshing aroma make it ideal for maintaining healthy follicles and skin, though some may find the texture or scent less appealing. A versatile, natural option for beard care enthusiasts seeking a dual-purpose product.
This beard wash has genuinely impressed me, and for someone who has struggled to find a truly satisfying product, that's saying a lot. Most beard washes I have used do a good job of cleaning, but always left my beard feeling dry and my face itchy, practically demanding a conditioner or oil right after to restore moisture. What sets this one apart is its approach to cleaning. It uses simple, natural ingredients that get the job done without leaving my facial hair and face feeling like the sunbaked desert. My beard feels thoroughly clean, yet still soft and not at all dry, which is a huge win. I also really appreciate the refreshing, cool sensation it leaves on my face (I'm assuming that's the peppermint oil working its magic). And speaking of scents, it has a pleasant, subtle fragrance that isn't overpowering, which is key when it's right under your nose all day. This beard wash has become a staple in my routine. If you're looking for a product that cleans effectively without sacrificing moisture, and leaves your beard and face feeling genuinely refreshed, this is definitely worth trying.
So far good, it a small container
It’s thin and doesn’t lather like you’re used to, but it’s going to get you clean and feeling great anyway!
This beard wash is designed to cleanse and nourish facial hair. It focuses on providing a gentle, organic formula that supports hydration and a healthy scalp. The core feature is the hand-whipped formula, offering a gentle cleansing experience without stripping away natural moisture. The coconut, castor, and argan oils provide hydration and support a healthy scalp. It’s designed for regular use and supports a healthy beard. This offers tea tree and peppermint essential oils for a refreshing and energizing feel. It’s designed for men and supports a healthy beard. However, the primary focus is on gentle cleansing and natural ingredients, and the overall scent may vary depending on individual preferences. Despite this, it offers a practical and effective solution for promoting a healthy beard and a refreshing grooming experience. This is designed to be a practical and effective solution for promoting a healthy beard and a refreshing grooming experience.
This works great. I use it as a shampoo, and it leaves my hair nice and clean. It does not dry my hair out, and does not leave my hair oily either. As a bonus, it smells good too.
The best part about this is the scent. The minute it hits your beard you're getting a nose full of that crisp, tea tree minty goodness. You can tell there's a good amount of tea tree in the mix. A little goes a long way, making this a pretty good value for a bottle.Unlike many beard washes, this one will separate - so it's important that you shake it before using. It remixes quickly, so after just a few shakes you're good to apply. Texture wise it's on the thin side, so you want to avoid shower spray or you could quickly wash it out of your hand before applying. I'm pretty happy with it. The quality is clearly there and I feel clean and refreshed. My beard has stayed soft and smooth as well.
The Johnny Slicks Organic Hand Whipped Beard Wash (8 oz) is a fantastic multi-use grooming product. Its organic blend of tea tree, peppermint, and coconut oil delivers a refreshing, rugged scent while gently cleansing the beard, face, scalp, or hands. The watery consistency reaches deep into pores, removing dirt without stripping natural moisture, thanks to nourishing ingredients like castor and argan oil. It leaves facial hair soft, hydrated, and flake-free, with a revitalizing tingle from the essential oils. Priced at $30.00, this veteran-owned, USA-made product is a great value for daily use across multiple grooming needs. Highly recommended for a clean, confident look!
I got this for my husband to try. He doesn't have a lot of facial hair, but has been growing out a mustache. He tried this product as a full face wash and wasn't crazy about how that felt. It was a bit too drying for him. But he realized that this product would be best for someone with a full beard that needs that deep cleansing of the skin behind their beard. It smells fresh and minty, mostly like peppermint. The formula is on the thin side so a little goes a long way. It's a bit thinner than just castile soap (which is one of the ingredients) on it's own. Due to the thinner consistency, the bottle should last a good while. It's just the right size where it's bigger than a sample, but not so large that it would take forever to get through it if you're wanting to switch up your routine once it's gone.If you're someone with a lot of facial hair or a thick beard, I think you'll like this. It works up to a good lather. Just as a face wash it may be too much for every day use.
Good feel and clean
I tested this Organic Hand Whipped Beard Wash for a little over two weeks before reviewing because my readers know I don’t dish out praise until a product’s seen real use—and a few Monday mornings. It’s been sniffed, lathered, rinsed, and scrutinized under our household’s casual grooming audit (which includes feedback from me and my reluctant-but-honest husband). The scent is what I’d call "rugged spa"—peppermint with just enough tea tree to remind you this isn’t your average body wash sneak attack. Texture-wise, it’s rich but easy to rinse, and didn't leave that over-dried squeaky feel some natural washes tend to brag about. My husband’s beard felt clean but not stripped, and I even tried a dab on my own skin post-workout (multi-use, right?) without any issue.I’m half Korean and usually buy my health and beauty items from our local Asian store—where formulas often walk the tightrope between herbal brilliance and skin wisdom. So this felt a little extra in branding, but it performed admirably. My only quibble is with the packaging—it’s small for the price and the label smudged after a splashy shower, which felt a bit low-budget considering the product itself is pretty dang good. Thanks for reading my review.
I really want to like this because the product is made in the USA, and the company is based in North Carolina, and "Johnny Slicks is a marine-veteran-owned company dedicated to providing organic, high-quality grooming products for men with ingredients that have purpose", but this just isn't for me.It says it is very watery to allow it to quickly penetrate your thick beard to nourish the skin and hair follicle, and this sounds great, but makes it very difficult to effectively apply it without it running out of your palm and onto the floor, or your shirt. It also says it has a "Rugged Scent", *In my best Maury Povich voice* The Lie Detector Determined: That Was a Lie.Unless we're classifying tea tree oil as a Rugged Scent now, which I don't.When I think Rugged and Manly, I think Woods: Sandalwood, Oak, Agarwood, Pine; Materials: Leather, Denim; Other Stuff: Amber, Smoke/Tobacco, Bourbon, etc.Another issue I take umbrage with is that if this was leave-in, I would probably dislike it less, but after applying it, you're instructed to wash your face, but it has at least 4 listed oils in it, so unless you're supposed to wash your face with soap and water (which would defeat the purpose of using this), this step is redundant and makes no sense.I washed my face before applying, and then am asked to wash it again after using it, make that make sense.I don't really see the effectiveness, or functionality of this, and I don't think it's a good value in my opinion, but I still like the company, and would support them again in the future, should they release a newly updated product.
Second bottle I've purchased. Good product and love the scent.
