    6-Inch Nitro-V Petty Chef Knife

    The Kitchen Cutlass is a medium-size petty chef knife designed to become an everyday reach in the kitchen. Its 6-inch cutting edge gives it more working length than a paring knife while staying more compact and maneuverable than many full-size chef knives.

    The blade is made from Nitro-V stainless alloy. Nitro-V includes nitrogen and vanadium, elements used in this stainless alloy to support hardness and toughness for a frequently used kitchen blade.

    What is processing time?

    Processing time is the period between placing your order and the package being handed to the shipping carrier.

    Most orders are processed within 2–5 business days, Monday–Friday excluding holidays.

    During this time, your item may be picked, prepared, produced, finished, assembled, personalized, packed, or otherwise made ready for shipment.

    Shipping time does not include processing time. Carrier transit begins after processing is complete and the package has been accepted for shipment.

    Where does my order ship from?

    My American Goods® uses a hybrid fulfillment model.

    • Some products are stocked and shipped directly by My American Goods.
    • Other products ship directly from the independent American brand or maker.

    Why might my order arrive in multiple packages?

    An eligible return must be requested within 30 days of delivery and must be in the same condition in which it arrived.

    Returns require authorization. Items sent back without approval may be refused.

    What cannot be returned?

    Taste, texture, scent, expected flavor, and personal preference do not qualify as product defects.

    Damaged, defective, or incorrect item?

    Report the issue within 7 days of delivery. We may request clear photos of:

    • The item and the reported issue
    • The product packaging and seals
    • The outer shipping package and shipping label

    Keep the item and all packaging until the claim is resolved. Claims submitted after 7 days may be denied.

    Who pays return shipping?

    Unless we confirm that an item arrived damaged, defective, or incorrect, the customer is responsible for return shipping.

    • If we provide a prepaid label, its cost may be deducted from the refund.
    • Original shipping charges are non-refundable.
    • Return-label rates vary by package size, weight, and destination.
    When will my refund be issued?

    Refunds are not issued when a label is created or when a package is first scanned. The return must be received and inspected before approval.

    • Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method or as store credit, depending on the item and return circumstances.
    • Applicable original-shipping and return-label costs may be deducted.
    • Please allow up to 10 business days for processing after inspection.
    Candles and fragrance products

    Candles and home-fragrance products cannot be returned because of scent preference. Fragrance is subjective, and natural variations are not defects.

    Lit, burned, opened, melted, warmed, or otherwise used products are ineligible for return. Report confirmed damage or defects within 7 days and include photos.

    Cancellations and exchanges

    Order changes and cancellations must be requested within 60 minutes of purchase. After that window, processing or fulfillment may already have begun and changes are not guaranteed.

    Direct exchanges are not guaranteed. For an eligible item, the fastest option is usually to complete an authorized return and place a new order.

    The Story behind Join or Die Knives

    Founder Brent Stubblefield began making knives as a hobby in the early 2000s before formally launching Join or Die Knives in Richmond in 2014. His goal was bigger than simply making blades: he wanted to help bring back traditional skill, independent craftsmanship, and a stronger community around making things well.

    What kinds of steel does Join or Die Knives use?

    Materials vary by knife. Join or Die works with stainless steel, high-carbon steel, Damascus, and layered constructions depending on the design. Current examples include Nitro-V stainless steel on its Filet Knife and a Go Mai chef knife made with a high-carbon core, mild-steel cladding, and a nickel layer.
    Where are Join or Die Knives made?

    Join or Die states that all knives it sells are made by Brent Stubblefield and the team in Richmond, Virginia. A neighboring shop handles some laser cutting, but Join or Die performs the heat treatment, grinding, handle work, and sheath making itself.
    Will Join or Die knives rust?

    It depends on the steel. Stainless-steel knives are more corrosion resistant, while high-carbon and Damascus blades can develop a natural patina and may rust if neglected. Join or Die recommends keeping carbon-steel blades clean and dry and applying a light coat of food-safe oil when appropriate.
    Are Join or Die knives dishwasher safe?

    No. Join or Die specifically recommends keeping its knives out of the dishwasher and sink. Extended soaking, steam, and harsh dishwasher conditions can damage blade edges, handles, and other components. Hand wash, dry promptly, and store the knife in a safe, dry place.
    How should I keep a Join or Die knife sharp?

    The brand recommends frequent edge maintenance before a knife becomes fully dull. A honing steel, ceramic hone, or leather strop can help maintain an edge, while a sharpening stone or other abrasive system is needed once actual sharpening is required.
