    The Story behind Five Oaks Farm

    Five Oaks Farm began with one family’s decision to plant deeper roots. After beginning married life in Kodiak, Alaska, the founders moved to North Alabama, where they raised five children, homeschooled, planted gardens and fruit trees, kept chickens, and eventually built a farmhouse on 17 acres. Their goal was not simply to sell products, but to create a family life shaped by hard work, stewardship, practical skills, and care for the community around them.

    That philosophy became especially meaningful as the business grew. In October 2024, products were still being handmade on the family’s dining room table. Rather than outsourcing production or abandoning the handmade process, the founder invited local mothers to learn the craft and work flexibly from their own homes. Five makers became ten, then fifteen, and eventually a community of approximately 50 local artisans.

    Behind each bread bag or bowl cover is not an anonymous production line, but a real person practicing a useful skill and earning income through flexible, local work. Even select wooden tools carry a family connection, handcrafted by the founder’s father in his workshop across the field.
