The Story behind Five Oaks Farm

Five Oaks Farm began with one family’s decision to plant deeper roots. After beginning married life in Kodiak, Alaska, the founders moved to North Alabama, where they raised five children, homeschooled, planted gardens and fruit trees, kept chickens, and eventually built a farmhouse on 17 acres. Their goal was not simply to sell products, but to create a family life shaped by hard work, stewardship, practical skills, and care for the community around them.

That philosophy became especially meaningful as the business grew. In October 2024, products were still being handmade on the family’s dining room table. Rather than outsourcing production or abandoning the handmade process, the founder invited local mothers to learn the craft and work flexibly from their own homes. Five makers became ten, then fifteen, and eventually a community of approximately 50 local artisans.

Behind each bread bag or bowl cover is not an anonymous production line, but a real person practicing a useful skill and earning income through flexible, local work. Even select wooden tools carry a family connection, handcrafted by the founder’s father in his workshop across the field.

This bench scraper is an excellent upgrade from what I've been using when making bread. The size and weight allow for easy control. Very sturdy with top-notch craftsmanship that's no trouble to clean. A tool I know I'll make plenty of use of around the kitchen!

Beautiful and practical

This is the most beautiful, well made bench scraper. I have owned others: plastic, cheap metal, sharp thin metal, cheap wood that falls off….This is gorgeous wood, solid, thick enough beveled metal, sturdy solid wood riveted on well. It is a practical work of art. I will look at more this company makes—it’s that good….

High quality scraper.

I have been meaning to write a review for this for a couple of weeks now. The Steelport Bench Scraper is a great kitchen tool. I love that one corner is rounded and one is square, for different applications. I have used it for pizza night a couple of times and it has made cutting brownies super easy. The beautiful wood handle and quality steel are super durable and the weight of this scraper just feels solid. It’s definitely a great gift for the baker in your life.

This thing just feels good in the hand — heavy in a satisfying way, like a real tool. The wood handle is beautiful and comfortable, and the blade is super functional for dough, veggies, you name it. Definitely the nicest scraper I’ve used.

Easy instant upgrade for my kitchen

Love this bench scraper! I mostly use it for scooping up chopped veggies and for portioning dough when I bake bread. The unique Oregon maple handle is beautiful, and it's a contoured shape so it's very comfortable to use. One corner is pointed and the other is rounded so you can use the edge that fits the task at hand.. I also appreciate that it's locally made in Portland. This bench scraper is a great little addition to my STEELPORT and FINEX collections as I slowly upgrade my kitchen to as many heirloom quality, locally made products as possible.

Lovely wood handle, needs sharpening.

Great over all. It requires a bit of sharpening to make it perfect. The edge is square dull and requires a bit of edging at a 20-30 degree angle to make it a perfect tool. Great wood and quality steal - just that one shortcoming but I would buy again for sure. It’s “handsome”.
