American-Made Flannel, Handcrafted Since 1991

Discover The Vermont Flannel Company, a New England apparel maker creating flannel shirts, pajamas, lounge pants, jackets, blankets, accessories, and cold-weather essentials that are hand-cut and sewn in the USA.

Founded by Mark and Linda Baker in East Barre, Vermont in 1991, Vermont Flannel has spent more than three decades focused on one thing: making exceptionally soft, durable flannel the traditional way. Today, the company remains rooted in Vermont, with production facilities in East Barre and Johnson and a continued commitment to American apparel manufacturing.

The process begins with premium 100% organic cotton flannel woven in Europe, where commercial flannel production remains highly specialized. The custom fabric is yarn-dyed, tightly woven, and brushed on both sides for softness before arriving in the U.S., where Vermont Flannel teams hand-cut, sew, and inspect every finished piece.

This isn’t imported clothing carrying a Vermont name.

It’s real American apparel manufacturing, built around exceptional fabric and more than 35 years of New England craftsmanship.

Vermont Flannel FAQs: American Manufacturing, Organic Cotton & Everyday Comfort

Who founded The Vermont Flannel Company?

The Vermont Flannel Company was founded by Mark and Linda Baker in East Barre, Vermont in 1991. In 2022, the company became part of USA Brands, a group focused on supporting American apparel production, while Vermont Flannel’s team and operations remained rooted in Vermont.

Are Vermont Flannel products made in the USA?

Yes. Vermont Flannel’s products are hand-cut, sewn, and inspected in the United States by American production teams. The company has maintained its commitment to domestic manufacturing since 1991.

Where does the flannel fabric come from?

Vermont Flannel sources its premium flannel fabric from a trusted partner in Portugal, where specialized commercial flannel production remains available. The fabric is then transformed into finished garments and home goods in the United States.

What makes Vermont Flannel so soft?

The fabric is brushed on both sides to raise the soft surface known as the nap. Vermont Flannel describes its process as brushing the fabric “beyond reason,” creating the exceptionally soft feel the brand is known for.

Is Vermont Flannel made with organic cotton?

With limited exceptions, Vermont Flannel uses 100% organic cotton flannel. Its primary fabric is yarn-dyed, tightly woven, and made to strict environmental and social standards before being cut and sewn in America.

How should Vermont Flannel be cared for?

Most of the brand’s cotton flannel can be machine washed in cool water and dried on low heat or carefully hang dried. The tightly woven fabric is designed to minimize shrinkage, though customers should always follow the care instructions on the individual product.
