BeetTan was founded by Michelle Peth. She began learning spray tanning in Savannah, Georgia in 2014 while working as a bartender and raising her child as a single mother, then formally built BeetTan around the idea of creating a sunless tanning alternative inspired in part by her sister’s experience with sun sensitivity and skin cancer scares.

BeetTan is known for self-tanning mousse, self-tanning lotion, tanning water, face tanning serum, professional spray-tan solutions, tan-prep and removal products, and body care. The brand also offers a separate MAN TAN collection.

The brand’s signature formulas use DHA derived from sugar beets as the tanning ingredient, paired with ingredients such as coconut, sunflower oil, beetroot extract, cucumber, rosehip, cranberry, tomato, and vitamins depending on the product.

BeetTan states that its products are vegan and cruelty-free, formulated without animal-derived ingredients, and not tested on animals. The brand also describes its core formulas as paraben-free.

BeetTan is based in Savannah, Georgia, where the brand currently lists its official pickup location on East Liberty Street. The company’s origin story is also closely tied to Michelle building the business from her home in Savannah.
