Description
Our organic grow kits have 3.5lbs of certified organic mushroom mycelium in them, enough to grow up to 2 pounds of mushrooms across multiple flushes. Just pull the circle off the back of the kit, mist it 2-3 times a day and you'll have your own crop of fresh pink oyster mushrooms in 5-10 days. All kits come with a misting bottle, humidity dome and detailed directions on the side of the box.
How It Works
Our grow kit boxes contain a block of mushroom mycelium, illustrated directions and a misting bottle. Mycelium needs light, humidity and fresh air to grow mushrooms. So to use our kits, you pull the circular cutout off the back of the box, cut an "X" in the plastic underneath and create a humid environment around the cut.
You can use the included misting bottle and a "humidity dome" or you can set up a humidifier next to the kit for a lower-maintenance option. Within 5 days, you should start to see some growth and within 10 days you should be harvesting your first crop of pink oyster mushrooms!
We guarantee that'll get at least one crop of mushrooms out of our kits but it's possible to get much more. After your first harvest, replace the humidity dome and continue giving the mycelium a humid environment. Some of our customers have gotten up to 4 additional harvests from their kits.

Storage
After you receive the kit, you can store it at 45-50 degrees for up to 6 weeks or up to 3 weeks at room temperature.
How Should I Cook These Things?
Our favorite way to cook all wood-loving species of mushrooms here at Hodgins Harvest is a simple saute recipe we call Cook 'Em Crispy. You can follow the recipe below or click here for a more in-depth explanation.
Ingredients
1/2 LB Hodgins Harvest mushrooms
1-2 TB butter or olive oil
2 TB white wine or sherry
Sea salt
Instructions
Heat butter or oil over medium heat. Slice the mushrooms or shred them apart with your hands into small pieces. Sprinkle lightly with salt and sauté for 10-20 minutes. Allow most of the moisture to cook out of the mushrooms until they’re brown and crispy around the edges. Add the white wine/sherry and cook until the added moisture evaporates. Enjoy!

Substrate Ingredients
Our grow kit substrate is made from a mix of hardwood sawdust and either organic oat wheat bran or soy bean hulls. There is a small amount of grain spawn in each block that may contain one or more of the following grains: millet, rye and sorghum.

This is my second round with the Lions Mane. The first attempt started off great, but ended with mold, gnats and uneatable Lions Mane. The directions included with each box were slightly different. The first stated to use a sheet of plastic to cover the opening and mist the plastic as needed to keep humidity up.The second stated to use the corner of a bag to create more of a dome. It also had a note included to allow the product to rest for 1 week after receiving to allow it to settle from shipping.I did not use the plastic at all this time. I felt this would lead to the same issue as the first attempt. Therefore, after the product set for 1 week, I opted to place it in a 10x20 seedling tray with high dome that I had on hand. I placed a diffuser in the opposite end of the tray to add humidity as needed. My diffuser has a remote, so there was no need to remove the dome during the growing process. It is important that the dome has openings in the top to adjust air flow and humidity. The fine mist of the diffuser works so much better than the included spritzing bottle. I was constantly spritzing the plastic on the first box to keep the Lions Mane from drying out. I found that the diffuser did not have to be run very often to provide better humidity with the dome.I am beyond pleased with the results. The Lions Mane grew very quickly and was very delicious. So far I have not had any issues with the mold or keeping the humidity up like before. The one thing I would change is the cardboard box itself. I feel like there should be some kind of layer on the outside of the cardboard to prevent the box from breaking down so quickly. Especially near the opening. The cardboard is just not suitable for long term humidity. Some of the cardboard was attached to the Lions Mane after harvesting, but was easily removed. The information states that it may be possible to get 4 flushes out of the kit before new substrate needs to be added. I am super excited to see if that is possible.Anyone considering this product, I would highly recommend a good set up with a tray, dome and diffuser. It greatly improved my results.
It's only been 3 days, and I've got a pretty good fruiting started. Keep your house (or grow area) between 60 and 80 degrees, mist the plastic 'dome' every 3 or 4 hours (I used the plastic from a paper towel packaging. less if in high humid areas, more in very low humidity areas. I live in a desert climate for reference), or when there are little to no water droplets visible, and it'll be fine.If it's your first time growing mushrooms, remember this: Where does the fungus typically grow? In the forest, shaded, well ventilated, and high humidity areas. As long as the fungus can breathe and 'drink', and not freeze or overheat, it'll thrive.
Neat kit for growing some pink oyster mushrooms! Still waiting on them to fruit, but they look good and it looks like it's getting ready to produce some mushrooms. There was an issue and I had to order another kit, but this one came well packaged and it looked well innoculated. The pink box is cool, and the directions are pretty simple. Make sure you keep the bag humid, cut an x into the plastic and the little spray bottle is included for spritzing. It's small, but large enough for a decent fruiting to try, and they should fruit a few times I'm hoping. It fits on the counter without taking too much space. They take a little bit to produce, no noticable smell from the box though and it looks cute. Looks a little like something from Harry Potter... would definitely try another one or maybe get another when these are done. Pretty decent value and comparable to others I've looked at, but I definitely like the box it comes in. Will post pictures once it fruits!
Love this product, really easy to grow. Instructions are on the box and easy to follow. Highly recommend and will be purchasing again.
Easy instructions & Quick to Grow! They don’t mention you’ll need some large ziplock bags to make a humidity tent in the Amazon listing but otherwise this was a great purchase. You can do more than one grow on the mushrooms! 🍄
Easy set up, clear instructions (even for someone without a green thunb). Can’t wait to get my first flush (harvest)!Update 2/11/25 - super fast growth, ready for the first harvest! (See pic)
So much fun to watch this thing grow. I just kept it right next to my humidifier in my office and it sprouted in just under 2 weeks. Working on the 2nd growth now!
Fast growing. Within 2-weeks, I had a full flush of Lions Mane mushrooms. I used one side of a freezer bag I cut into half as a drape to cover the front “X” that I cut into the mycelium bag, used scotch tape as hinges I connected to top of box, misted the freezer bag cover a few times a day, draped over the X, placed the box in a semi shaded area of my dining room, and voila, lions mane! I heard some place the box in a dark room which I would not recommend. Just not in direct sunlight. Great kit!
I found the instruction video for oyster mushroom to be very helpful and easy to follow. I made a 1cm deep cross cut in the bag within the circle as directed. although I didn't understand the instruction to "cut corners" and therefore didn't cut the corners of the bag in any way. Since the plastic humidity dome was not included, I used a plastic bag to maintain good humidity, covering the entire kit. I misted the kit 4-5 times daily using the provided misting bottle. The kit was placed in a shady area of my kitchen countertop, and I was amazed by the rapid growth. By the third day, I started to notice pink spots, which quickly developed into beautiful pink oyster mushrooms within a few days. The color is stunning, and I'm excitedly awaiting the harvest.
Left this guy in a dark corner and headed to vacation for two weeks...Yikes! There it was, spilling out of the box like a little mushroom alien!Testament to how fresh the product is, to say the least.I have to admit it startled me initially...now to open the package and do what I'm supposed to do to enjoy these in a lovely Sautee!
This was starting to grow as soon as we got it so we cut it open and got a nice size. We should have harvested it 4 days before this picture. These make very small clusters. The ones we get from the farmers market are 3x the size so 23 didnt know how long to wait, so now it is yellowing. We will follow the directions for a second harvest.
Got my mushroom kit a few days ago! It’s been a breeze to use and the delivery was super quick. It comes with the grow kit, a plastic spray bottle inside the box, and the instructions were on the side of the box which says to take the cardboard flap off and the cut an X into the plastic, then spray it with water, tape a piece of plastic to cover the area to keep the humidity up and spray it multiple times a day. The cardboard flap wasn’t on there, but everything was intact to use!I would recommend sanitizing the knife and plastic where you're supposed to cut and the plastic sheet to prevent mold from starting. I used isopropyl alcohol to sanitize everything and then cut the X. I also recommend using water that has been sitting out for a day or two to put into the spray bottle. Tap water has chlorine and isn't good for plants or microbial activity.Looking forward to watching my mushrooms grow!
I've had the lions mane mushroom grow kit for about 12 days and it is a slow start. A tiny piece grew out of the plastic and I did try it. It tastes very much like a button mushroom, but with a different texture profile. It is going to take much longer than 2 weeks for it to grow because I don't think I'm growing it properly. It does say to keep it in darkness, but I don't have a place that's that dark. So I am guessing it is user error. But I will continue this and enjoy my mushrooms when they eventually grow. And possibly try putting it underneath a cardboard box with holes to see if that helps.
Bought this for a homeschool Botany project. We are excited to grow our own mushrooms. They are already starting to form so this product does work!
Omg!!! Look at it!!! This is so much fun. I've wanted this for ages and it's totally awesome. It's so simple, it comes in that exact box and the instructions are on the sides which are so simple anyone could do it. You just take the card off of the front and cut an X in the plastic within the circle. They say to hang plastic loosely over the front but they don't give you the plastic so you have to find that yourself. You could probably use a grocery bag. The you just mist the underside of that plastic and keep doing that when it dries out. And then just let the magic happen in a dark place. It grows really fast and I'm sure this will be ready very soon. Excited to get these into the frying pan.
These mushrooms were easy and fun to grow, and even my young son liked helping me mist the shield and check on their growth daily. They grew relatively quickly and I can’t wait to see if we can get a second harvest. Great indoor project for education or when outdoor growing isn’t possible. Very little space required.
This kit was great fun to grow. It's exciting to see the first signs of growth and then it keeps going and going. The other sides produced a bit less than the first but still fun. Makes a great gift too. Love that the company stands behind it's products. Sometimes nature can be a bit of a diva but they are happy to replace it if there are any issues.
